Abstract

[Aim] This investigation will clarify the characteristics of group learning from statements made by a group that included adult students and a group of current students.
[Method] I carried out quantitative and descriptive analyses of statements that were made by the group that included adult students and the group of current students after their usual seminar on lifestyle support skills, which were based on the participation-through-observation method (non-participative type).
[Results] A characteristic of group learning is that the students discussed between themselves what they had picked up during the seminar and shared what they had learned. The students recalled their acquired knowledge, became aware of the skills in which they were inexperienced while practicing, and reviewed the learning methods and content that they had learned thus far. Because the adult students were aware of the difficulties involved in working and the importance of maintaining mental and physical health, in the group learning of the group that included adult students, advice was often given from personal experience.
[Conclusion] In order to make group learning more effective, it is necessary to encourage adult students, who come from diverse backgrounds, to share their experiences, in accordance with the content being learned.
